Violin
John was born in Arlington, Texas, the son of Korean immigrants,
his father Dr. John Moon, a political science professor
at the University of Texas at Arlington. He began
the study of the violin while in elementary school, and became an All-State
player as well as an All-State athlete by his early teens. He is
a protegé of Vincent Frittelli and the Galamian
School, and has explored new approaches to the violin in his
graduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin,
where he holds a Master’s degree. He is
the Director of Chamber Music at St. Stephen’s Episcopal
School, and is active in establishing related schools in Haiti. Besides
playing and touring with Atash, John also maintains an active classical
performance routine with such groups as the Austin Symphony and
the Austin Lyric Opera, is the Director of Operations
for Ars Mundi, and deals fine violins through his company Moon
String Network.
